First Experience Cooking Pizza in the Outdoor Oven

Our first experience cooking in the outdoor oven did not go too well.  We stoked the fired for about 6 hours, but ended up letting it go out a bit for and hour while we went to church.  That may have not been our only mistake.  The dough recipe we used is one I had found on Allrecipies.com and it was much too thick and doughy.  Our next mistake was constructing our pizzas on a paper plate.  We spread out the dough, added toppings including homemade pizza sauce and cheese.   When it came time to take off the plate, the dough stuck and would not come off.  We ended up sort of rolling it up like a calzone but that made the dough even thicker. The pizzas ended up undercooked (we cooked them each for at least 5 minutes) laced with ashes and grit.

The kids were able to pick thru them and eat the cooked parts and what was done was pretty good.

This started out at a flat pizza

Since the kids were still hungry we resorted to using this for the rest of dinner

We will need to study more about the art of making pizzas in an outdoor oven before we invite the neighbors over!
